Homopolymer Polypropylene
Homopolymer polypropylene is a thermoplastic polymer with low specific gravity and good resistance to chemicals and fatigue. The rigidity, strength and resistance to fatigue allow polypropylene homopolymers to be typically used in lower extremity prosthetic application such as AK frames, AK sockets, BK frames, and BK sockets. Typical shrinkage is 1 1/2 percent to 2 percent.

Thicknesses: 1/16, 3/32, 1/8, 5/32, 3/16, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 3/4, 1, & 1 ¼
Recommended oven temperature: 350° to 375°

Co-Polymer Polypropylene
Polypropylene copolymer has more resilience than homopolymer polypropylene. Copolymer polypropylene has less rigidity and processes at a slightly lower temperature. These qualities allow copolymer polypropylene to be spot modified more easily than homopolymer polypropylenes Copolymer polypropylenes are more commonly used in orthotics, but are gaining acceptance for AK and BK sockets. Typical shrinkage is 1 1/2 percent to 2 percent.

Thicknesses: 1/16, 3/32, 1/8, 5/32, 3/16, 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2.
Recommended Oven Temperature: 350 to 375

Modified Polyethylene
Modified Polyethylene offers excellent stress crack resistance relative to other comparable products. In addition, MPE has a higher tensil strength, longer forming window and is more rigid than LDPE.

Recommended oven temperature: 350° to 375°

Low Density Polyethylene
Low Density Polyethylene is the oldest member of the polyethylene family of resins. The flexibility, chemical inertness and lower temperature processing make this material a good choice for lower extremity socket liners. Typical shrinkage is 1 1/2 percent to 3 percent.
Colors: Natural
Thicknesses: 1/16, 3/32, 1/8, 5/32, 3/16, & ¼
Recommended oven temperature: 350° to 375°

High Density Polyethylene
High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) is harder, more rigid and has a much higher compressive strength than LDPE. It has a low moisture absorption rate and is chemical and corrosion-resistance. It appears whiter than LDPE. Typical shrinkage is 1 1/2 percent to 3 percent.
Colors: Natural and Black
Thicknesses: 1/16, 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, & ½
Recommended oven temperature: 350° to 375°
ACRYLONITRILE BUTADIENE STYRENE (ABS)
ACRYLONITRILE BUTADIENE STYRENE (ABS) is very tough, with an unusual combination of high rigidity and impact resistance: has excellent thermoforming properties and a high drawing ratio (4:1) with maintenance of a uniform wall thickness. It has fair chemical resistance; very low moisture absorption; good dimensional stability, and high abrasion and heal resistance.
Colors: Black and White
Available in thicknesses: 1/16, 1/8, 3/16, & ¼
Recommended oven temperature: 325° to 400°

Proflex
Proflex is a semi-transparent/cloudy flexible material that is primarily used for flexible sockets. It bonds well to itself, should be worked at low temperatures and trimmed only when cold.
Colors: Semi-Transparent/Cloudy
Thicknesses: 3/16,1/4, 3/8, 1/2, & 5/8.
Recommended oven temperature: 325° to 350°
Proflex with silcone is white in appearance. It is also primarily used for flexible sockets. It bonds well to itself, should be worked at low temperatures and trimmed only when cold.
Colors: White
Thicknesses: 1/8, 5/32, 3/16, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, & 5/8
Recommended oven temperature: 325° to 350°
Subortholen
APS-500, also known as Subortholen® , is a high strength polyethylene that can be cold formed as well as thermo molded. APS-500 is light-weight, yet rigid and strong with minimal creep. It is primarily used for orthotics and lower extremity orthotic cuffs.
Colors: Caucasian, Black & White
Thicknesses: 1MM, 3MM, 3.5MM, 4MM, 4.5MM, 5MM, & 5MM
Recommended oven temperature: 325° to 350°

Surlyn
Surlyn® is the trade name for Du Pont Company's Ionomer resins. The long-chain semi-crystalline polymer structure imparts characteristics normal to a polyolefin. The upper usable temperature range of unreinforced Surlyn is 120 degrees F to 170 degrees F. The reduction of crystalline structure produces good optical clarity. Surlyn® is processed using the same techniques as low- density polyethylene. Surlyn® can be used for fitting modules and socket liners. Typical shrinkage is 1 percent to 2 percent.
Colors: Clear
Thicknesses: 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, 3/8, & ½
Recommended oven temperature: 350° to 375°

PETG
Commonly known as PETG, Durr-Plex or Vivak™ . This material remains amorphous, clear and virtually colorless even in very heavy sections. It has high stiffness and hardness and good toughness. These qualities make this material a good choice for check sockets. Durr-Plex can be easily spot heated with a heat gun and modified easily during the fitting process. Typical shrinkage is 0.5 percent to 0.75 percent.
Colors: Clear
Thicknesses: 1/16, 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, 3/8, & ½
Recommended oven temperature: 325° to 350°

Orthoflex
Orthoflex™ is a transparent, flexible, thermoformable material designed primarily for BK socket liners, AK socket liners, AFO cushioning, inner booties, shock absorption as well as many other orthotic and prosthetic applications. It is easily formable through all standard processes - drape form, blister form and vacuum forming. It is a strong durable material with an easy release surface.
Thicknesses: 1/8", 5/32", 3/16" & 1/4"
Recommended oven temperature: 325° to 350°

OrfiTrans
OrfitTrans® Stiff is primarily used for transparent rigid check sockets. Comparable to Otto Bock’s ThermoLyn® Stiff. This material is Styrene based, has a high degree of stiffness and has high fatigue resistance.
Colors: Clear
Available in thicknesses: 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, and 15mm
Recommended oven temperature: 340°
OrfitTrans® Extra Soft with or without Silicone is primarily used for highly flexible prosthetic sockets. The silicone version is used for highly flexible prosthetic sockets that are very smooth to the touch. Comparable to Proflex and Proflex with Silicone, although there is no tackiness or sticky residue on the inside of your socket, which is sometimes experienced with the Proflex products, so no need to add powder. Also there is no bulging, breaking or tearing at the seams like with the Proflex Products. Orfitrans™ products are EVA based, very flexible and exhibit superb forming properties.
Colors: Extra Soft is available in semi-transparent, while the Extra Soft with Silicone is available in Opaque.
Available in thicknesses: Extra Soft 9mm & 12mm; Extra Soft with Silicone 6mm, 9mm, & 12mm

FLEX
Flex is soft, flexible, thermoformable, can be heat gun molded, has good clarity, and bonds well to itself. It is an excellent choice for an inner liner material. It can be placed inside of an AFO for added stability, yet still be flexible. Many of our current practitioners use Flex and have had success with it as an inner liner on adult and pediatric AFOs where varying levels of flexion are needed. Another benefit to Flex is that it does not cold form over time. This small addition to your AFO can be held in place with a small piece of self-adhesive hook and loop.
Thicknesses: 1/8, 3/16 & ¼
Recommended oven temperature: 325° to 350°
